Maintaining Good Page Rank with the Search Engines!

Maintaining Good Page Rank with the Search Engines!

When you submit your web site information to the search engines for indexing, your site doesn't appear online instantly, as some would lead you to believe. Search Engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing have to sort through millions of pages, and compile the information from these pages and transfer this data into their databases. This is an automated process that goes through billions of pages, using their latest guidelines, verifying a host of algorithm factors in order to index your site correctly. All this is done in order to establish a page rank, for each site that the spiders has gathered information from.

If you see your site rankings bouncing up and down, don't get to excited. Sometimes it take a little additional time for the new rankings to appear. If you check your standings again later in the day, your page rank may have changed. If your site drops, and stays low, then is when you need to start paying close attention to why your site has dropped, and stayed there.

You've been working extremely hard on your web site, optimizing the site to the best of your ability, and you finally reached a page one Google ranking for your efforts. What a feeling of accomplishment, when that moment occurs. Now that you've reached that goal, your work has just started. To keep a Top Position with Google sometimes is as hard, or even harder, to maintain your rankings, than it was getting to a top position in the first place. The algorithms of the search engines changes continually, so you must keep on working, to make sure your site maintains a high page rank.

It may seem unimportant, that once you've earned that top position, and your ranking is pretty stable, that you must continue to monitor you rankings and make changes as needed. I personally monitor my standings several time a day. I want to know if there have been substantial movement on my rankings. If there is a dramatic drop, I will start researching the reasons for this sudden change. Check you status often, and don't let it get out of hand. It's rather difficult to try to play catch up, after a drop in rankings, particularly if you've let if go for a while. Page Ranks can drop quickly, and without notice, so pay close attention here.

All of us have competition out there, and your competitors are all striving to gain those top positions too. Some of the major companies have employees, that their only function in the organization is to keep the company on page one, as near to a #1 position as possible. There is a certain amount of credibility you enjoy, by being #1 on Google in a specific keyword category, however, there is only one, #1 position available. You must fight very hard to maintain a high ranking position on all of the search engines.

The function of the search engines is to index your opportunity. If your site is configured correctly, well written, has a well balanced keyword density, meta tags correctly configured and all the other good things within their algorithms, you may have a chance of gaining those top positions. However, since the search engines are constantly changing the criteria they use to rank web sites, it may be sometimes rather difficult to keep up with the search engines rapid changes. Just remember, for the search engines, it's a matter of numbers, for you it's a matter of making money online. When you discover this perfect balance, you will be one of the few, who actually make money on the internet. Last report I saw was that, less than 3% of people on line make money. You too can be one of this elite group.

The purpose of this ever changing strategy with the search engines, is to prevent web site owners from trying to manipulate their system, in an attempt to get a higher page rank, than what they rightly deserve. This is the main reason you must monitor your site position daily and keep with with this ever changing search engine process. This is a prime example, "If you snooze, you loose."

Most site owners try to maintain this balance manually, which is a very time consuming, tedious ongoing task for most, however, there are some automated systems that can assist you in this daunting task. This author does NOT endorse or recommend any particular companies product, for this process. Go online and search for this type of tool....then do your due diligence, and then, make an informed choice of whether automation is for you.
