Identifying the Right Keywords!

Identifying the right keywords for your next website or promotional campaign is a critical step in the overall success. Since the search engines places such great emphasis on good rich relevant keywords in their algorithms, it become vitally important to have the very best keywords and keyword phrases in every campaign you do. Identifying the keyword that best described your opportunity and are specific to your business is always the best, however, if the keyword or phrases is too competitive you may want to rethink your choices of the keyword(s) you want to use in your promotion.

A good way to find keyword choices is to visit some of your competitors sites and see what keywords they are promoting. Making a list of your products or services will help you get a better handle on what you may need to pursue for your keywords. Less popular keywords are sometimes easier to earn higher ranking much quicker than going for the most popular words and terms. Using different variations of a keyword or phrase sometimes will work well for your current promotion. Using hyphenated words, plurals and synonyms can give you a broader base of popular keywords that is overlooked many times by your competition.

If all else fails you might want to consider using some form of Keyword Tool designed to help you in this chore of selecting the right keywords. If you don't want to spend the money, then you might want to contact your mentor, consultant or webmaster and see if they have such a program they could do this chore for you and you could pay them a small service fee. Don't be afraid to spend some money once in a while and get professional help as needed. The overall differences you experience with just this one example could generate enough additional income and traffic to justify what you paid for this information.

Next you must address the way you are going to use these keywords in your overall campaign as well as in the content of your website. Make sure you include some of your keywords in the title meta tag, the description meta tag and of course in the keyword meta tag area of your source code. If you don't understand where these elements are and what their purpose is, then by all means seek the assistance of your marketing professional. These areas are the first place the search engines spiders look so they can index your site in the proper categories in order to match your site to the queries submitted by internet users who search for your business opportunity.

Placing your keywords strategically throughout the content of your website is another way to get the search engines to rank your website higher. Make sure you use some of your most important keywords in the first paragraph of your website. This will also help in the page rankings of your site.

Any one of these simple suggestions will help your ranking positions, however by using all of these small details the overall effectiveness of your campaign will be enhanced substantially. By using some form of a meta tag generator this process can be simplified considerably. Again if you don't want to spend the money for such a program, then secure the services of your marketing professional. If you're going to stay in this business and do a lot of promoting then either way your money will be well spent.

Now that you've gone through the process of doing some extensive keyword research, made sure you've positioned your selected keywords and phrases in the proper place within your source code and content of your website and you're totally comfortable with your new website, now comes the ongoing chore of promoting your website on the internet.

It is recommended that you hand index your URL to the top three search engines on any new site or information you're promoting. Since a high percentage of people search the big three I limit my submission to those three only and submit them manually. Then with some my automated systems I will include some more of the other popular engines with an automated submission.

Since it takes normally 4-6 weeks or longer for many of the search engines to spider a site and include the information of that new site in their data base, it's important to hand index to some engines in order to get a head start on the waiting period mentioned above. Re-submissions on a regular monthly basis is highly recommended so your site will remain fresh in front of the search engine robots. Submitting to the engines more frequently than the 30 day recommendations may result in the search engines considering it as spamming and the search engines will penalize you severally. In severe cases the engines will ban your website from the internet for a year or more.

In Conclusion....Do your keyword research thoroughly and make sure you include your primary keywords in the title, description and keyword tags in the source code of your site. Include your keywords and phrases in the content of your website and avoid keyword stuffing. Promote your site to the search engines on a regular basis each month. If you need help don't be ashamed to ask for help from the professionals.
